"#ThisGirlCan is an inspirational campaign that tackles barriers head on! It shows women and girls of all ages, the pure enjoyment and euphoria that sport and physical exercise can bring. Who wouldn't want to get involved!"

Cornwall's #ThisGirlCan Ambassador

Read her story:

When Emmie arrived at Crantock SLSC 7 years ago, there was a small nippers section but no senior training and especially no ladies team. The successful, motivated group that she has formed is a true credit to her, they now have 30 ladies signed up for beach and pool training sessions. Emmie volunteers an enormous amount of her spare time and the whole club is continuing to grow as a result of this hard work and dedication.

Emmie is an inspiring leader and has helped progress the Nippers, Youth and adult club sections by training parents and adult helpers to gain accredited lifesaving awards and competencies in board, ski and swim. Her engaging style of teaching and approachable manner has created a pathway for the future and has enabled the club to grow as a whole. Emmie manages to make each individual feel safe and comfortable to act in their role. She has also motivated a lot of members to become coaches in other disciplines such as swimming, surfing and triathlon.

Many new members have never been in the sea deeper than waist high and are nervous as a result. By creating training sessions to suit all levels of skill and ability, Emmie manages to shift the focus from fear and self-doubt to personal progression and achievement. When asked to describe Emmie, Sarah Blinkhorne said "Everybody at Crantock Surf Life Saving Club would agree that she is a very patient, dedicated, inspiring and motivational leader who takes deep pride in everything she does. Any time that your confidence is low, she will pop up by your side to help you harness that fear, believe in yourself and perform the necessary so you not only succeed but are beaming from ear to ear with it. Whatever your goal is, every member at the club would agree that Emmie will give her all to help you achieve it."

Almost every member of Crantock SLSC Ladies' team has been lucky enough to know the feeling of winning a medal at county and national level competitions, and we owe this to Emmie's commitment. She not only encourages the team to believe, but also to succeed. At the Surf Life Saving National Championships in 2014, Crantock Ladies came 5th in the country, and in 2015 they went one place better by finishing in 4th. In the Cornish Championships their ladies team came 1st and Crantock Masters came 2nd overall, achieving an amazing 14 gold, 15 silver and 6 bronze medals between them all. This year, they retained the Masters 2nd position. Now the men's section has also been inspired, with husbands, dads and boyfriends also wanting a piece of the action.
